| | thoughtful | ] | Hello, LJ world! I just realized that I haven't updated on here in a ridiculously long time. I've been busy and just using facebook more, I guess. But I figured I should say hello and tell you what's going on. So, in a few short sentences...
It is the middle of July. I'm moving to Eagan in two weeks. I'm leaving for North Dakota in two days for a devised-theatre residency. I'm working four jobs at the moment. Started at Best Buy two months ago and love it. I have a ridiculous middle school crush on one of my co-workers. I went to a Twins game today and won tickets to ANOTHER Twins game - The fifth thing I've won this year.
...I think that pretty much sums it up, other than this meme I promised Lexi that I would do!

[Apr. 9th, 2009|09:59 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | pleased | ] | Hello from North Dakota. Yesterday we drove about nine hours to Minot and stayed overnight in an especially swanky hotel with - get this - Memoryfoam mattresses. I almost died of happiness. Unfortunately that hotel also had GIANT pool that filled the entire area with chlorine, so by the time we taught seven classes at the hotel and left today, I was almost dead. (Because I'm allergic to chlorine, if you don't know me that well.)
Right now I'm in Jamestown, so tomorrow, we drive the rest of the way home - less than six hours I believe. Here's what happened when we came up to our hotel room:
Michelle: (walking in front of me and stopping in front of our door) Ummm... Me: What? Michelle: (steps out of the way. Our door says "Garden Room" on the front.) Ummm...
So we open the door and yes, we are in a themed suite. SUITE! I don't know how that happened for $55 a night. We have our beds of course, but there's a separate little alcove with a couch, recliner, a second TV, and a microwave and refrigerator. We were shocked.
Also, I would like to say that though this is called "The Garden Room," there are murals on the walls of dolphins, tropical fish, and palm trees. And there are big fake tropical trees flanking our TV. I don't get it.
Do I have anything important to say? Not really. |

| Howdy from Mason City |
[Apr. 2nd, 2009|11:00 pm] |
One day left of the crazy Iowa Arts Council residency I've been prepping for since August. All is going well, and the students are pretty awesome. It's weird to do a five day residency and not get any feedback from the teachers - because we're using the IAC evaluations for this, I don't even get to SEE the evals, they get e-mailed to someone else. So hopefully the teachers are enjoying it and feel like it's worthwhile, but I have no way of knowing that, which is frustrating.
Amy, who is in charge of this whole crazy IAC thing, came to observe me on Wednesday. She had really good things to say - She was supposed to stay for two classes but only stayed for one because she felt like she didn't need to see anymore. She came up to me afterwards and said, "Well, it's obvious that you're a professional" and then she talked to me a for a while about CLIMB and the type of training we go through and the services we offer. She also asked me if I would be at the conference in May, and when I said no, she was like, "Oh, that's too bad. I'm trying to get some of the more experienced people to lead some sessions and I was hoping I could get you to lead a session on direction-giving or student reflection." LOL. So, there's that.
Oh, and there's also the fact that I spent most of last night in the ER. Not for me! I'm fine. My partner, Michelle, had really bad stomach pains all day and they never went away, so I brought her to the hospital around 9pm and stuck around until 12:30am until I went back to the hotel to get some sleep. She called me at 3:30am to go pick her up - They did blood tests, x-rays, and a CT scan and determined that she has swollen lymph nodes in her stomach that caused the pain. So I taught alone today, which was weird, but she's starting to feel better now so hopefully everything will be fine for tomorrow.
I'm tired! So I'm going to bed shortly. Just thought I'd update y'all on my week in Iowa.
Oh, and also, I've been eating TERRIBLY this week. And the hotel doesn't have a fitness center, so I haven't worked out once. Boo me. I suck sometimes. |

| | confused | ] | Starting Weight (2/22): 171.3 Current Weight (3/14): 174.4
So here's the thing. Yes, I could be doing more to try to gain weight. I could be working out more, and I could cut back way more on the diet soda (but I love it so much!).
BUT!
I am using calorie-counter.com, thanks to Deb's suggestion, and for the past week and a half it's been charting every single thing I'm eating and how many calories I should stay under in order to lose weight. And every single day except two, I've been under in calories, fat, cholesterol, all that stuff. So it officially makes NO sense that I'm still gaining weight.
I should probably see a doctor, but I just spent a bunch of money on new glasses, and I want to make sure I have lots of money for Tulsa, so...I should wait a month or so.
LOL, you can see where my priorites are. Doctor? Nah, I have to buy souvenirs in Tulsa! :-)

So obviously, this is going well. *sigh*
Here's the thing. Yes, I've been out of town the past two weeks. Yes, I've been eating worse than I would LIKE to, just because of that.
BUT! I am still working out more often than usual, and I am still eating FAR better than I normally would - I've only had fast food TWICE in the past three weeks. TWICE! That's it!
Will someone please explain to me why my body hates me? Kthxbye.

OK, so it LOOKS like I gained .2 pounds. But here's what happened! Last Sunday, as it says above, I weighed 171.3. BUT on Monday, just 24 HOURS LATER, I weighed 175. So if you look at my weight loss since MONDAY, I've actually lost 3.5 pounds.

| The Post of Doom |
[Feb. 23rd, 2009|08:51 pm] |
So, here's the deal. I'm fat.
No, seriously. I've gained just an exorbitant amount of weight in the past two years, and I'm not OK with it. I've been sort of wishy-washy trying to lose weight for a while, but I have no will power whatsoever when it comes to food, and I hate to work out. So now, I've decided to reach out to all of you.
KEEP ME ON TRACK!
The scary number: As of last night, I now weigh 170.3 pounds. (I'm 5' 6 1/2".) And that's a lot.
Now I've already made a deal with myself - If I can lose 10 pounds by April 15th, which is completely doable, I get to buy the shoes I really want. If not, I don't get them.
But that's not going to be enough to make me lose weight! So I encourage all of you, whether I see you regularly or not, to pester me about my eating habits. Yell at me if you see me eating something I shouldn't be. Ask me if I REALLY want that fun-sized Butterfinger before I go to bed. Tell me that my WiiFit will hate me if I don't work out at least 30 minutes a day whenever possible.
Oh, and if you have any weight-loss tips, throw them my way! My problem is that I can't do anything involving running because it makes me really sick (my throat's all screwed up), so don't suggest anything involving running. Or really anything that will cause me to bounce up and down like that. And if you have any miracle diet tips, throw those my way, too.
I'll try to remember to post weekly updates, which will hold me accountable. Because I'll feel bad if I know that you're all judging me for not losing weight. LOL.

Happy birthday, Lizzy! - The $556 I'm getting back in taxes - The $770 mileage reimbursement check I should get next week - Going to Tulsa in May for the MOE - Hanson FINALLY releasing "Strong Enough to Break" on DVD - The scarf Amanda bought me
Things I'm NOT Happy About: - My poor, broken car that I can't drive for a week or so and will probably cost me at least $1,300 - The fact that being car-less means being dependent on others. Which I'm NOT good at.
That's it for now. |

| [ | Current Mood |
| | tired | ] | In a lovely hotel room in Waukesha, WI right now. I should be getting ready for bed...I'm very tired...But I have two things I must tell you.
First: The Hanson Member's Only Event (from here on out referred to as "MOE") is confirmed for May 16th. Tulsa, here I come!
Second: At a gas station today, I noticed a sign with all of the different car wash options. One of the features of the $7 car wash was a "hot cherry pre-soak." I have NO idea what that means, but Amanda and I could only think it sounded dirty. |
|
|
| So, this week sucks... |
[Feb. 7th, 2009|06:14 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | blah | ] | ...And here's why.
Tomorrow (Sunday), Amanda and I drive to Waukesha, WI. It's a five hour drive. We teach classes in Waukesha Monday and Tuesday, then we drive back Tuesday night.
Wednesday, we teach classes in the Minneapolis area.
Thursday, we drive BACK to Waukesha so we can teach on Friday. And then drive back home Friday night.
Sooooo that's 20 hours of driving, just because we have to do classes here on Wednesday. And unfortunately there was really no way around that, everyone else's schedules are full too...
Also, I can't stop gaining weight. Seriously. The only way I've found that I can lose weight (and even then it was only three pounds) is to skip a meal completely. Even if I eat healthier and exercise more, I'm still gaining weight. It makes no sense to me and I'm not happy with it! I don't want to be fat, and I don't want to have to buy new pants just because it's a struggle to button my old ones. Any miracle weight loss solutions, anyone?
Let's see...Anything else exciting happening in my life? Not really. I have to get my room cleaned up a bit before I go out of town tomorrow. I've let it get pretty gross (for me, at least) over the past two weeks out of town. I was in Nebraska earlier this week, which was exciting only because I had never been in Nebraska. Other than that, it appears to be a pretty boring state. But we were also only, like, 15 minutes over the border. Our hotel was actually in Iowa.
I only have two weeks left of teaching with Amanda, and then she goes back to Ohio and I start teaching with Michelle. Again, I'm worried about this switch only because I always get nervous having to work with new partners. I'm sure everything will be fine.
It is confirmed that I will be at CLIMB next year still, but I can't say much more than that at the moment.
My fish looks sad. I should clean his tank tonight. I'm really tempted to get one of the dual betta tanks that I used to have, with a divider down the middle so you can have two in one tank. But if I can't even take care of one, why should I have two? Also, I want something furry, like a cat (which of course I can't have right now) or a guinea pig (which is still pretty silly, considering how often I'm out of town). I miss having something furry and cuddly in my life! |
|

Happy late birthday, Becky! (I suck at trifectas.)
I have a feeling that I'm going to be MIA for the next ten days or so due to work. And stupid North Dakota next weekend. So try not to miss me too much, LJ world.
I don't know if I have much to say other than that. I'm doing some work today so I'm ready for rehearsals tomorrow, but hopefully that won't take more than two or three hours. Oh, I need to find good "fishing" music - you know, the stereotypical slow country bumpkin thing - anyone have any suggestions?
*yawn* Why did I wake up before 8am this morning? I'm tired already. |

| It's kind of a holiday... |
[Dec. 31st, 2008|04:27 pm] |
Happy New Year's Eve! I have such crazy plans tonight that it's going to blow your mind. I know what you're thinking: "Julie never goes anywhere. She just sits and home and cleans and watches TV."
Well I will prove you all wrong! Because tonight, on New Year's Eve, not ONLY am I sitting at home and watching TV...I'm also ORDERING PIZZA. WOAH. (I know, I'm a little wild.)
Anyway. I just found out that there are five verses to Auld Lang Syne. Hmm.
My room is ALMOST clean after the semester break/holiday packing/holiday unpacking/purchasing of new belongings. I mean, I finally put my suitcases away, so that's good.
Can I reiterate how much I'm not looking forward to January 9th? Oh, I don't think I ever actually explained this on here...Here goes. January 9th is a Friday. Amanda (my new partner) and I teach seven classes and then drive to North Dakota, for a WEEKEND residency. With 14-25 year olds. Who are recovering from substance abuse addictions. Helping them to produce a play. ON A WEEKEND. IN NORTH DAKOTA. As if that isn't bad enough, my friend Summer is flying in from Georgia and will be in MN for one week. She's flying in on the 9th. Which also happens to be her birthday. And I said I'd take her out to dinner. And now I can't. Because I'll be driving to flipping NORTH DAKOTA. *grrr*
Anyway. That aside, I'm excited to go back to CLIMB for the next semester, although it will be very different without all of the people who got laid off. (Eight people in my job position and two people in admin, in case I haven't mentioned that, either.)
I feel like I should have New Year's resolutions, but I never keep them. So I'll just say the same thing I say every year - I am going to lose weight. (Except I probably won't, because I never do.)
Back to cleaning and Arrested Development...
Oh, btw, I hope you all recognize my icon. For anyone who is not already a fan of Flight of the Conchords, go look them up on Youtube. I <3 Jemaine. |

Heya. I'm at home in Lombard now - I was going to drive in tomorrow, but it's supposed to snow a lot overnight so my parents wanted me to avoid that. This wasn't a problem, since Bed Bath and Beyond hasn't scheduled me, but I did get here later than I would have ideally. Oh well.
It's cold.
I would be in bed by now, but my clothes are still in the drier and I don't have any clean pajamas yet. Boooo.
Good news - I brought my Wii and balance board with me so I can WiiFit over the next few days. I've gained, like, six pounds in the past two weeks. For no apparent reason. If you look at the graph of my weight on my WiiFit profile, it's just a steady line upwards ever since I got it a few months ago. Which makes NO sense! I'm eating better, I'm working out more...Why on earth am I gaining weight? Someone please explain this to me.
My parents have three cats and the two littler ones keep trying to jump up on my computer. Crazy cats.
Soooo...I'm going to be mildly bored for the next few days...Feel free to call and entertain me.
Also, I have had Beyonce's "Single Ladies" stuck in my head for, like, two days now. It's completely ridiculous and driving me crazy.
I really have nothing to say right now. Obviously. |

To let you all know that Pepsi has changed its packaging. I was thoroughly confused when I went to the grocery store today.
Strangely, it seems to taste better in the new packaging. Which makes no sense.
Other than that, not much going on. I finished up my semester at CLIMB yesterday and still have a small amount of work to do, but I'm pretty much done until January 2nd. I haven't heard from Bed Bath and Beyond, so I'm assuming (which probably isn't a good idea) that they don't need me. My friend Jamie is checking the schedule for me tomorrow just in case. I'm enjoying my time off but I'm ALREADY BORED. (Seriously. I'm incapable of relaxing.)
I'm driving home the 23rd and don't know how long I'll be home or what my plans are, but Lizzy, I'll see you if I can! Oh, and I got your card - Thanks! It made me laugh and fits you perfectly.
Back to my fluffy reading...Jodi Picoult's "19 Minutes"...I'm not as drawn to it as some of her other books, but it's a fast read and it's keeping me occupied.
Oh, also, I hate January 9th. I'll update about that some other time when I'm bored. Like, tomorrow. (Although I'm planning on amusing myself tomorrow by going to MoA.) |

So far, my goal of using every holiday-related icon before Christmas is not going well.
Today and yesterday, the temperature has stayed below 0. Windchills of -30 during the day. It's snowing right now - we already have 10 inches or so on the ground, so I'm not looking forward to this winter. BOOOOO. *throws rotten tomatoes at the snow* |

| Happy Day Before Thanksgiving! |
[Nov. 26th, 2008|07:59 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | bored | ] | I am still sick. Yuck. This is day five of the amoxicillin and while it has certainly helped, I'm still congested. And also, at the moment, I'm feeling nauseous for no apparent reason. BUT! Things are looking up, as I am hungry for the first time in six days! Yay!
I have the next few days off work at CLIMB, but I'm working at Noodles on Friday, which I'm excited about. I haven't been there since September. I hope I actually remember everything. I also have a feeling that it's going to be SUPER busy, so...I hope I don't screw up! *crosses fingers*
Ally and I have some interesting programming this next two weeks. We have a class on gossips/cliques/exclusion for 6th and 7th graders that I'm looking forward to...Other than we're doing it in six days and I haven't written it yet. We also have a few classes at an alternative high school with 10th graders who, for many reasons (drugs, babies, family problems, etc.), have chosen to leave their "normal" high school and go here instead. So I'm hoping that goes well. I don't want to get all "after-school special" on you, but I have this image of us leaving those classes and having every student applauding us and running to get their diplomas. LOL. I...don't think that's quite what will happen.
Oh! I almost forgot! I won the Star Award for TeachCo today! So over the course of the year, we can give "stars" to people if we see them do something above and beyond their job, and twice a year the stars get "evaluated" and a winner is chosen from each company. And I was the winner today! Hoorah! I feel special.
Let's see...I'm bored, so I'm writing nothing of substance...Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I was invited to my friend Melissa's house but probably will not go unless I start to feel better - I'd rather not get her whole family sick. So I have a feeling I'm just going to lie around being sick and bored all day. Feel free to call me at random points and amuse me. I'm reading a few books right now, but I can only do that for so long before I get antsy and want to move onto something else...
Oooh, I know! I'll write the two scripts we're performing next week! Crazy idea.
There's a new Top Chef on in 53 minutes. I'm not terribly dedicated to this season yet, but we'll see what happens.
OK, really, I obviously have nothing to type about. Soooo...I'll go back to entertaining myself with the TV. And doing dishes. |

I'm feeling kind of "blah" right now - My throat hurts a little and I'm REALLY tired. Even though I just slept for, like, a billion years. Stupid winter illnesses...
The real reason I'm posting is to show you these pictures, that got leaked a few days ago from Tim Burton's new Alice in Wonderland movie. I'm not terribly excited about the movie, but I WANT THIS COAT. *drools* |

It's a Sunday and I woke up for no reason at 4:30am. And can't go back to sleep. Grr.
I found a WiiFit yesterday! Wahoo! It's super fun and I'm thoroughly enjoying it thus far. Other than the fact that when it weighed me the first time, it told me I was overweight. LOL. I mean, I already knew that, but seeing my little Mii character look down at her belly and frown was just hilarious.
Nothing else new and exciting. I'm just killing time until I fall back asleep. |

...Because they show reruns of 3rd Rock from the Sun. I friggin' love that show and I'm thrilled to be able to watch it again. I used to have such a crush on Joseph Gordon-Levitt...
So my phone sold on ebay for, like, $90. Hooray for making a profit on a lost phone! (Probably illegal, but moving on...)
Ally and I taught at a really awful school today. The kids were just terrible. I would say...3rd worst school I've ever taught at? And GreenCo came to observe us, which I felt awful for - I swear, it's usually better than that!
I want to go out on a date. With pretty much anyone. I'm not picky at this point. Someone find me a date!
I don't know if there's much else to say right now. I would comment on the election, but I'd just be echoing what all of my friends have already posted. Oh, and also, I'd like you to know that the lj ad on the side of my page right now says, "Will you vote for Obama in 2008?" Ummm...It's a little late for that...
Ally and I have it easy for a few days, which is awesome. Yay for actually having time to rehearse and sleep in our own beds! (Although it was nice to be home - IL home - and it was nice to meet all of her friends in Morris.) |
|
|
| From the road... |
[Nov. 2nd, 2008|10:56 pm] |
I am in Morris, MN right now, in Ally's college apartment. It's bringing me right back to my own college apartments, most of which I don't want to remember!
Got back from the Chicago Public Schools residency late on Friday - around 10pm. Was home for 35 hours-ish. Want to sleep in my own bed.
Bad news - I lost my phone a week ago and had to get it replaced. Bad news - Getting it replaced cost me $50. Good news - My old phone got returned to me and I reactivated it. Good news - The replacement phone is on ebay and is currently at $37 with six bids.
I'm very tired but can't go to sleep because Ally has four friends over right now and we're all chatting in the living room. Seven classes tomorrow, and then I think I'll finally be able to take a breather and process all of the stuff from the past week. And also sleep in my own bed. |

| Another Manic Sunday... |
[Oct. 19th, 2008|05:39 pm] |
Happy two weeks (roughly) until Halloween! I should get my dress in the mail within the week (there was a shipping error) and then I'll have everything I need to put together my very awesome American McGee's Alice costume. Now someone has to have a party...Anyone? *crickets*
The crickets are mostly because no one in MN reads my LJ. I'm sure someone will have a party. Neil? Brittney? CLIMB House?
Last week I was home, teaching in Lisle, IL. It was nice to see my family and some other people I've missed - Lizzy, Mr. Kaetzer, Justin Mayo, Mark Mavetz, and of course the Simmons folk! Danny Simmons is in 7th grade now. He had JUST turned six when I started nannying them. It's so sad.
Mark Mavetz took one look at me in the hall and said "Wait...You look like an older version of someone I should know." LOL
This week it's off to Peoria, IL for a day and then the following week we're in the Chicago Public Schools. Ally and I have turned into Team Illinois. I have no problem with this except for the ridiculous amount of driving.
I have a family of birds nesting in my air conditioner. They are very loud.
So I performed a piece at the CLIMBaret last night that I call the "Mike Sinon Saga" - A piece I did at Ted a few years back and went over well. They loved it here, too. It's just reading a few key pages out of my elementary school diary for everyone's amusement. Anyway, everyone was laughing hysterically, and Buffy (the head of PerfCo) came up to me afterwards and told me she loved it and that I had "impeccable sentence structure for a 5th grader." LOL. Best compliment ever.
My room is messy...I need to hang up my clothes...
EDIT: Oh, haha, silly me. I forgot the whole reason I was posting here in the first place. For those of you not on facebook I've finally updated my CLIMB photos to include stuff from last night and a few other random trips. CLIMBing |

| New Tattooooooo |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|01:58 pm] |
So Ally and I went to get tattoos yesterday morning. It was a bonding experience and we ran lines the whole time...Haha...That's another story.
For those of you who remember how terrible my first tattoo experience was, this one was a million times better. The artist yesterday, Jeremy, said that my first tattoo was in a very painful place to begin with (which surprised me), the IB Profen I took probably caused the excessive bleeding, and the metal alloys in the colored ink probably reacted badly with my metal allergy. So this one is very simple and plain black.
It's on the front of my left ankle, fyi. And it's a quote from the Hanson song "Deeper," which I think encapsulates my entire life...I've had it on a tote bag for a few years but I figure I'd make more of a commitment than that. :-)

[Oct. 5th, 2008|09:50 am] |
Hey folks! In a few hours I'm leaving for Primghar, Iowa to teach their for two days. I'll be back Tuesday night.
Next week we're teaching in Lisle, IL...Yay! Lizzy (and anyone else in the area) I'd love to see you. I could do dinner the 14th, 15th, 16th, or even an early lunch on the 17th. My partner Ally will be with me of course (I can't just abandon her, lol) but she's cool.
On the 23rd we're doing a conference in Peoria, IL. It's just that one day, but I'm assuming we'll be driving down the day before - dinner, Charleen? (Do you even read this anymore? I don't know. I'll call you when it gets closer.)
It's been a busy week and one of those weeks where it's hard to stay under the 50 hours I'm allowed to work. |

| Hansonnnnnn! |
[Sep. 27th, 2008|06:16 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | giddy | ] | So the Hanson concert was last night, and it was amazing, as usual. They played FIVE SONGS IN A ROW that I had never heard live before. We had a fairly decent spot on the floor but there were some tall folks in front of us and some super drunk girls next to us that were REALLY annoying. Oh well.
I would also like to say that I JUST found this video. It's from the concert last December and captures one of the greatest moments of my life! You can hear me before you see me - I'm the one who Isaac asks where I moved from and I say "Chicago."
Just for good measure, here's the picture that was taken, if you haven't seen it:

| Avoiding outlines... |
[Sep. 22nd, 2008|09:15 pm] |
|
I've spent the whole evening eating too much (as is a common theme in my life) and watching TV. I have to do at least one outline before I go to sleep...But first, a meme.
Go over to Wikipedia and enter your birth date and then
- pick 3 events, - 1 birth and - 1 holiday that occurred on the day of your birthday.
Events: - 2000 - Last performance of the musical "Cats" in London's West End (yessss!) - 1953 - An F5 tornado hits Waco, Texas, killing 114 people - 1502 - Christopher Columbus leaves for his fourth and final voyage to the West Indies
Birth: - 1894 - Martha Graham, American dancer and choreographer (She's cool, but not as cool as Isadora Duncan.)
Holiday: - Holiday of the City of Miskolc (wherever that is.) |

| I'm famous! |

| | surprised | ] | It's about time I'm famous!
I don't when they changed the signature stories on the CLIMB website, but I discovered today that they had and I'm finally up there.
Go to www.climb.org, click on "about us," then "signature stories." I'm #3. Yay!
This was recorded in February, I think.
EDIT: Apparently it's only updated on some computers, and on others, people are still seeing the older videos. Try clearing your cache or viewing it in explorer.
EDIT AGAIN: I just discovered that if you watch clip 3 in windows media player, it's me, but if you watch it in quicktime, it's still Megan Hartman. Weird. |

| | tired | ] | I am posting to say a few brief things.
RENT closes on Broadway today. One of very few musicals I actually enjoy. Goodbye, RENT!
Hanson starts the third leg of The Walk Tour tonight in Oregon. Yay! That means I'm seeing them in 19 days!
I have to be at work at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Boo.
The weather is getting colder and it's causing my sinuses to dislike me.
In the past four days, I have watched the first season of Arrested Development and am now starting on the second.
I sat on my glasses last night (lol) and screwed them up, and now there's a tiny little nut and bolt holding the frames together. Smooth, I know. I'm a rock star like that. |

| Cedar Falls, Iowa |
[Sep. 3rd, 2008|09:14 pm] |
Hello, interwebz. I am currently at the Days Inn in Cedar Falls, Iowa. It is set up very strangely. The window in my room faces in to the hallway - It's kind of like a prison, but where the bars would be is a window. It's super weird and I've never seen it before.
My goal was to be here by eight so I could watch Project Runway. Even though I had to turn back 30 miles into the trip because I forgot something (*sigh* silly me), I still made it here by 7:45...only to find out that my hotel doesn't have Bravo. Boo! It has all of the other cable channels!
So I actually know more about the conference now than I did last time I posted. James gave me a big packet yesterday after I bothered him for details. So the conference is called "Artists as Educators: Planning Effective Residencies for Students" and it was designed by the Kennedy Center. Ooooooh. It sounds very snazzy. I'm hoping it isn't terribly boring, because if it is, I'm stuck in a room for eight hours tomorrow doodling in my notebook. And my doodles aren't very good.
Sheena in PerfCo lent me the first two seasons of Arrested Development. I'm excited because I've seen a few episodes, but not in order, and it helps with this show to watch it in order. When I'm finished with this update, I'm about to find out if my CLIMB laptop plays DVDs. If the answer is no, I'm going to be extremely bored because I also forgot to pack a book.
I've been in training just with the team leads this week and they are a really great group of people. I'm excited to work with them.
The end? I think? |

| Finally, a new post! |
[Aug. 31st, 2008|09:05 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | calm | ] | It's been a while, internet world. First off, my icon today is in honor of the fact that I'm going to Iowa for a few days next week...Yay, Studio 60 quotes that pertain to my life.
Let's see, what's new? Summer's over, so I'm back at CLIMB full time (save the two misc. Noodles shifts I picked up this weekend). I have my new teaching partner! Her name's Ally. I have a feeling we'll get along quite well. She seems to value the same things that I do in a partnership, and when we were working on activation Friday she picked it up really quickly. So yay for Ally Roberts!
Over the past week or so I've done some interesting things...Went to the Renaissance Fair first of all, which was a first for me. It was fun but not nearly as historical as I had been hoping! Not to mention that "Renaissance Fair" translates to "let's dress up like sluts" to its female attendees. Good Lord. And why all the fairie wings? Did people dress like fairies during the Renaissance? I missed that lesson in costume history.
Also, last week I went to the state fair to see Brandi Carile play. Yay! I absolutely adore her and finally got to see her live - and for free, no less! It was PACKED, so unfortunately we (me, Lindsey, and Chloe) weren't very close, but it was a great concert. She's amazing live. And I met her afterwards and got super excited and awkward. She signed my CD and I know Lindsey has a picture of me talking to her, so I'm assuming she'll upload that when she gets back to Chicago next week...
Oh, yeah, Lindsey's going back to Chicago next week! Boo! For those of you who didn't know, Lindsey Miller (ISU state manager, graduated 2006) has been sleeping on my couch for the past...five weeks? It's been fun having her and nice hanging out with her, since I honestly didn't know her terribly well when we were at ISU together. But she's leaving next week...And my couch will be empty again...Which just means that you should all come visit me.
Umm, what else? Seeing as I don't remember the last time I updated, I don't know what's happened since. CLIMB starting again is probably the most interesting thing in my life right now. And the conference I've going to in Iowa for a few days next week.
Oh, and also, I'm being attacked by gnats right now. Seriously. They've all wriggled their way through my window screen and they're, like, dive-bombing me. It's ridiculous. There are so many little flying things in Minnesota.
OK...The end, I think? I'm putting new pics on facebook as we speak so you'll be able to see some of my shennanigans of the past few weeks. Other than that, I'm trying to clean up my room and get ready for bed... |

[Aug. 2nd, 2008|12:04 pm] |
I keep forgetting to post this picture.
When I came home a few weeks ago there was a sprinkler going and something about how the light was hitting it made a rainbow, and it just looked cool. (click for a bigger picture)

[Jul. 19th, 2008|11:16 pm] |
|
I've decided to start putting the first thing I see in my subject line, because I'm not creative enough to think of anything.
THINGS THAT HAVE ANNOYED ME TODAY:
1. A 6:30am meeting 2. The boy I asked out three months ago, who "just wasn't ready for a relationship," telling me that he might move to Canada next year to be with the girl he's seeing 3. Feeling fairly unproductive at CLIMB, despite the work that got done 4. Dust 5. Downloading a Wii game that requires the classic controller...Which I do not have
THINGS THAT UN-ANNOYED ME TODAY: 1. The balance in my checking account being over $1,000 for the first time in months 2. My plant sprouting what appears to be a pepper 3. All the new Hanson pictures that have recently sprouted up (see profile pic) 4. Cleaning a lot (although not enough) |

| BWA HA HA HA |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|09:53 pm] |
This post is really dedicated to my Lizzy, but the rest of you are allowed to read it as well. Haha.
OK, so Lizzy, remember that poster of the giraffes I had on my wall in our apartment? And remember how the little giraffe always made me laugh really hard because he looked SO ticked off?
So Zac Hanson and his wife just had their baby, and People is publishing some photos that were leaked on the internet recently. Here is my favorite EVER.
Click on it to see it bigger, Lizzy, please. Shepard has the EXACT same look as the baby giraffe! |
